Balding Crown ReductionWHAT IS IT ? In the consult with the doctor, a balding crown reduction may be recommended for masculine alopecia. The result is a reduction in the size of the bald or balding areas, which are on the top and back of the head in most cases (50%-90%). In many cases it minimizes the number of transplants needed to achieve the patient’s density and abundance objectives for the top and back of the head. What’s the technique? The reduction of bald or balding areas requires the extraction of a strip of skin from the top of the head under local anesthesia. The scalp is then closed with stitches which leaves only one scar which will later be covered with the patient’s own donor hair during the process of the hair transplant. Who is a candidate? It still isn’t recommended in all cases. It has proven to be very beneficial for many men between the ages of 20 and 40 who have moderate to severe hair loss, including those who don’t have enough hair in the donor zone to have a hair transplant. Good scalp elasticity is essential to be able to successfully carry out the procedure. Various sessions could be necessary to achieve the objectives and wishes of the patient. Is it safe? As it is done in under our care it is a safe and effective procedure which normally takes 1 or 2 hours. It is an adaptation of a plastic-aesthetic surgery technique which doctors have successfully been using for more than 35 years. With this technique, there is no change to the shape of the face or any features, ears, forehead, or nape of the neck. |
