BOTOX

Until just a few years ago, the only way to correct facial wrinkles effectively was to undergo very aggressive treatments like peelings, resurfacings, or plastic surgery. Nowadays, the Botulinica toxin or Botox brings very satisfying results, without the necessity of facial treatments before or after.

The patient can do what they want, including go to the beach or lie in a tanning bed.  There is no season of the year better than any other.  The treatment can be done when the patient wants it and they can even go back to work without anyone noticing.  The only precaution is to not touch your face for 2 hours after the procedure to be sure the product doesn’t move to other parts of the face.

Type A botulinum toxin is ideal for the aesthetic treatment of facial wrinkles which are formed by the movements and expressions of the facial muscles; this neurotoxin relaxes the muscles.  It consists of the injection of a few drops of the product into the skin with a very thin needle where the wrinkles are to be eliminated.  The wrinkles are erased and natural facial expression is preserved, without having to go to the operating room with all the pre and post operation worries.

It’s important to know that facial treatments with botulinum toxin injections, also known as Botox, do not require allergic tests.  Small amounts are injected, which our bodies can reabsorb.

Wrinkles in the skin don’t have to be eliminated.  The problem arises when the facial wrinkle or wrinkles are considered unattractive by the patient or cause problems in their job, social life, or personal life.  In this case the elimination of the wrinkles can be considered with the treatments we have available.  Collaboration with an aesthetician is necessary to keep the skin in good condition.

Benefits

Thanks to the botulinum toxin, wrinkles on the edges of the eyes and facial wrinkles between the eyebrows and forehead disappear.  The eyebrows lift a little, giving the face a younger appearance.  The face has a more relaxed expression.  With the same method, wrinkles can be eliminated from the neck and upper chest.  The places where botulinum toxin are most commonly injected are between the eyebrows, horizontal forehead wrinkles, neck, upper chest, and the “chicken’s feet”  wrinkles on the outer eye.  Botox is the best product to stop and prevent aging.

Apart from this, botulinum toxin is a good alternative to other methods.  Filling products, like collagen or hyaluronic acid, can have a not very attractive result if they are used in certain areas, like the corner of the lips.  Botulinum toxin gives the lips their original shape back without any effects to the harmony of the face.

In face, it is compatible with and method or system, including plastic surgery, resurfacing, photo depilation, and micropigmentation.

A Who is it for?

Generally, botulinum toxin is recommended for young people who are beginning to get their first expression wrinkles.  However, it also has good results in older patients.  In aesthetic medicine, botulinum toxin can be combined with other treatments to be more effective and more beautifying.  A lot of times it is applied together with pulsating light to improve the condition of the skin.  Sometimes, a filling material can be used in more deteriorated areas and in other areas botulinum toxin is sufficient.

Duration of the treatment

Facial treatments are day patient procedures which are carried out in the clinic.  After a couple hours of rest, you can return to your normal life, with the only exception that you can’t receive any facial aesthetic treatments for the next 48 hours.

The result progressively visible between the third and fifth day after the treatment and wrinkles are gradually eliminated over the next 15 days.  After 20 days the patient has their first visit to check the results.

The effects produced by the infiltrations last six months.  At that point a second session can be done.  Eight months later a third session can be done and after that one maintenance session per year is recommended.

After the procedure small bruises might appear which can be easily concealed with make-up.  Headaches are also possible, as are problems if it is badly applied.  In spite of the fact that it is 100% effective, 95% of patients require small touch ups.  The only times it isn’t recommended are during pregnancy and breast feeding, and in patients with coagulopathy or who are receiving anti-coagulant treatments.
