Breast Ptosis (Drooping Breasts)

The effect of gravity and the variations of volume in the breast, especially due to pregnancy, cause the skin and ligaments of the breast to give, which lets the breasts fall and be situated in a lower position.

There are three categories of drooping breasts. Types : I, II, and III.

Anesthesia for Breast Ptosis

Breast reconstruction operations are done with general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation.

Surgical Process for Breast Ptosis

Depending on the type, we use one procedure or another:

  • Breast Reconstruction Type I:  We increase the volume of the breast using an implant, normally under the gland.  If we fill the breast without an implant, the contents go away over time.  This is especially recommended for women who have lost volume and the skin has not completely retracted after pregnancy and lactation.
  • Breast Reconstruction Types II and III:  We remove extra skin, above all if there is a clear excess of skin.  The skin be removed from around the areola or with a small vertical scar.  If there is sufficient breast structure, it will remodel itself and rise to the correct position.  If not, an implant can be placed as well as skin removal

Pre-Operation for Breast Ptosis

The pre-operation, medical photographs taken will show your breasts with all details.  They will help us evaluate and study before, during, and after the operation.

Surgical Time

The exact time of the operation will vary depending on the patient.  Breast reduction procedures normally take about 2 ½ hours.  You won’t feel any pain during the operation.

You will be checked into the clinic for one day.

The majority of patients don’t feel any pain after the operation, but a little discomfort.  Any pain or discomfort can be relieved with medication.

We normally apply bandages to the breasts after the operation, which are removed approximately 48 hours after the operation; then you can begin using a bra.

We begin to remove the stitches on the fifth or sixth day after the operation.  All the stitches will be removed by two weeks after the surgery.
