Mammaplasty Augmentation

Breast augmentation surgery is a surgical procedure aimed at augmenting the size of the breasts, to correct a loss of volume after pregnancy, or to balance the size of the breasts when there is a significant difference between them.

The shape and size of the breasts before surgery can influence the recommended treatment as well as the final result.  If the breasts are not the same size and shape before the breast augmentation surgery, it is unlikely that they will be completely symmetrical after.

It is one of the most appreciated surgeries in aesthetic surgery because when a patient has very small breasts or breast deformities the result obtained by implants is very satisfactory.

We must always do an anatomical evaluation: it is important to evaluate if there is flaccidity in the skin, what kind of cell structure is under the skin, the quantity of mammary gland, the size of the areola-nipple, the exact measurements of the thoracic wall, if the sternum is well placed or if one breast is lower, if there is a depression at the sternum level, if they are two symmetrical breasts, or if there are asymmetries and if the two nipples are at the same level or not.

Once all these parameters have been evaluated we inform the patient of the various ways of placing the implant:

  • Axilar
  • Trans-areola
  • Submammary

The implant can be placed under the gland or under the pectoral muscle.

It is important to inform the patient of all the types of implants there are:

  • There are Saline Implants which are silicone implants filled with saline
  • There are Silicone Gel Implants which come in many different shapes, anatomically designed shapes, round shapes, for tall or short patients.
  • There are also Cohesive Silicone Implants, which is silicone but it isn’t a gel, it is has a little more consistency and it has the advantage that it can’t break.
  • There are also Soy Acid Implants, triglyceride implants, and others.

Anesthesia for Breast Augmentation

General anesthesia is normally used, which requires the services of an expert anesthetist.

Surgical Process for Breast Implants

To carry out a Breast Augmentation Surgery – Mammaplasty Augmentation, we could use the following ways to introduce the implant:

  • The armpit:  The scar is hidden in a crease in the armpit and is difficult to see.  The implant is usually placed under the muscle.
  • The areola:  This way has the advantage of direct and easy access to place the implant.  The scar isn’t very visible over time.
  • The submammary fold.

After all this, we make the decision with the patient of which is the best technique for them.

Pre-Operation for Mammaplasty

The pre-operation, medical photographs taken will show your breasts with all details.  They will help us evaluate and study before, during, and after the operation.

Surgical Time in Breast Augmentation

The exact time on a breast augmentation procedure will vary according to each patient.  Breast implants usually require about one hour.  There are two modes of clinical stay:

  • 12 hour stay: you can go home the same day as the surgery.
  • 1 day stay: you sleep one night in the clinic, and you go home the morning after the surgery

Post-Operation for Mammaplasty

After the Breast Augmentation Surgery – Mammaplasty Augmentation, a bandage is applied to the breasts which shouldn’t be removed until you have visited the doctor.  After the stitches are removed, you will be instructed on how to use a bra.  The majority of patients have small pains and discomfort immediately after the operation, painkillers will be prescribed to avoid this if necessary.  The stitches are removed the fifth or sixth day after the operation, it’s quick and simple.
